The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced in October that eleven additional telemedicine services will now be reimbursed during the COVID-19 public health crisis, effective immediately. The additions to the Medicare telehealth list include services related to implanted neurostimulator analysis and pulmonary and cardiac rehabilitation services.
CMS is also assisting state Children’s Health Insurance Program and Medicaid agencies with expanding telehealth access by updating its “Policy Considerations” toolkit with supplemental information regarding which services may be accessed via telehealth, which healthcare providers may deliver the services, and which policies are temporary and which are permanent. Exactly how telemedicine services may be reimbursed once the public health emergency has ended is also detailed in the supplement.
